Frequently Asked Questions

I think I want to start therapy. What should I do?

Taking the first step to seek therapy is a big accomplishment. Now that you are here, the next step will be to set up a complimentary consultation where we can discuss what you are hoping to work on in therapy and I can share more about my approach. Consultations are a great opportunity for us to get to know each other and see if we could be a good therapeutic match! If we feel like it’s the right fit, we can find a time to schedule our weekly sessions.

What should I expect from therapy?

My main priority in our therapy sessions is to provide you with a safe space to share and reflect on your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. That space tends to look different for every person. Some people are looking for a listener, while others look for greater collaboration and back-and-forth dialogue. My goal is to tailor my therapeutic approach to best fit your unique goals and needs. During our first session, we can discuss what you feel may work best for you, which can always be revisited and modified later. Whether you have past experience in therapy or if this is your first time, we can explore your preferences together.

How can therapy help me?

I believe that the most transformative component of psychotherapy is the therapeutic relationship between the client and the therapist, one that is rooted in trust, respect, and collaboration. My goal is to highlight your strengths, while also working together to explore and identify helpful and creative approaches to coping with life’s challenges. I hope to have the opportunity to help you build life-long skills to better navigate our shared human existence.

Do you accept insurance?

My practice is in-network with Aetna, Humana, UnitedHealthcare, and Optum. For out-of-network coverage, I can provide superbills and work with you to submit your claims to insurance for reimbursement.

How much will sessions cost without insurance?

The session rate for individual 45-minute therapy sessions is $150. For 60-minute couples therapy sessions, the rate is $250. I also have a few sliding scale spots in my caseload for individuals experiencing financial hardship or limitations.

Are sessions in-person or virtual?

Currently, all therapy sessions are being conducted virtually on a HIPAA-compliant video platform.

How often will we meet for sessions?

We will start with weekly sessions, as this is the best way for you to gain momentum towards achieving your goals and seeing positive change and for us to build our therapeutic rapport. As you progress in therapy, we can discuss reducing the cadence of our sessions, if that is what best aligns with your goals and needs.

What is your experience prior to working in private practice?

Before entering the field of private psychotherapy practice, I spent several years working in clinical and medical research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. My diverse experiences with patients at MSKCC reinforced my passion for helping people and ultimately led me to Columbia University's School of Social Work. In addition to my background in private practice, I also have experience working with elementary-aged children in a school social work setting.
